Day 318

It is once again time for me to become fed up with the gaming media. Though this isn't something I do regularly on this blog, I am almost constantly pissed off at something that one of the uber tools at IGN or G4 or on Xbox Live has to say about my world.

Today's argument is with an article on IGN by one Ryan Geddes, which was published on the seventh of this month.

He begins the article with the - at the time - stunning revelation that Final Fantasy XIII would be released on the Xbox360 as well. This should not have been surprising in the least to anybody at all, considering that the Xbox360 owns the U.S. market.

The part that eats at me about this article, however, is when he states that, to him the series had "come to define PlayStation ... ". This statement made, of course, regarding a series that had once belonged solely to Nintendo, before gaming was made popular outside of the circles to which it would cling, in fear of being exposed to daylight.

This is particularly upsetting to me because of the fact that he is also speaking of a series which began to degrade horribly the moment it touched that platform and became the monument of gaming as which it is now recognized. Don't get me wrong here, I enjoyed Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9, but none of those three could come to match the beauty of Final Fantasy 6 and none have even come close to date.

Another part of this article which irks me is his regard to the PlayStation 3 as being "cool and Japanese." and "Quietly confident." Now I understand that he means the console doesn't sound like a jet engine starting in your gaming room, but the word "confident" is something I can simply not apply to the PS3, as that would be much akin to trying to apply the word "dignity" to the PSP.

This does not stand to say that I am backing Microsoft in any way over Sony.
